This is AMAZING.Thank youThank youThank you.Unbelievable.I found my family in this list!!!!!!
Thank you for your appreciation and encouragement. The Czernowitz Directory for the year 1936 (= about 30,000 addresses) will follow soon.
You have a very useful website, and your research is a great help to many. The 1897 map of Czernowitz makes me wonder if there is anything comparable for the village of Tereblecea (Tereblestie, Terebleche, Terebleshti, etc.) southeast of Czernowitz. That's where my grandparents were born. In 2007, I began systematically going through the microfilms of the old Orthodox parish records of Tereblecea, constructing family trees of my ancestors and cousins -- and of anyone who shared my ancestral surnames of Olar, Pascar, Toderiuc, Ciopei, etc. One thing that would help would be an old map that would enable me to put the various houses in Tereblecea into geographical context -- it might help me determine if certain same-surnamed families were likely related.Any ideas?
Jared...Thank you for your comment. I don't know to say about maps for Tereblecea (Tereblestie, Terebleche, Terebleshti, etc.), but I would strongly recommend to you to contact Vasile Craciunescu from Campulung Moldovenesc (firstname.lastname@example.org) and in addition to check the following website indicated to me by Vasile:http://english.mapywig.org/viewpage.php?page_id=43Best wishes and I do hope these data may be useful to you. For additional questions please contact me by mail (email@example.com). Edgar Hauster
Can anyone tell me what are the red and blue lines on the map?Thank You
Hello, First I give my thanks for whom ever put together this list, inside it i managed to find my great grandparents. My only concern is to try and find the properties or where they would be situated today. Since the city is now part of Ukarine where could i go to find out the equivelant street names??
Cesar...Congratulations on your find! First of all I'd encourage you to join the Czernowitz-L Discussion Group at http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/. Go first to the Ehpes Databases section on our website and look for the Street Name Translator:http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/czernowitz5/translator/translator.htmlTry to locate the location you are looking for by using one of the maps out of the Ehpes Map Collection. For any additional question, please come back to me: firstname.lastname@example.org
